Keep the poppies relevant

The following letter was published by Winnipeg Sun on Nov 10th 2023.

I’m starting to see more and more poppies being displayed and it’s making me fear, are these just meaningless ornaments now? We say “Lest we forget,” but it seems we’ve surely forgotten, especially considering how complicit we are through the nascent stages of WW3. True commemoration involves more than just a poppy on our coat. We must be willing to ensure we don’t see a repetition of past atrocities, and right now this requires us all to loudly call for a ceasefire in the Middle East. Lest we forget.

Ali Shahan Butt

The loss of lives in the Middle East is unacceptable.
